Browning BAR model

A rare double scale training model of a BAR, Browning Automatic Rifle, in carrying case, with demonstration platform.

The cutaway and scaled up model represents the Browning Automatic Rifle, Caliber.30, M1918A2.

The model was manufactured by J. H. Keeney & Co., INC. Chicago 32, ILL. for The Army National Guard, in cooperation with the Office of Naval Research Special Devices Center, Port Washington, L.I., N.Y.

Case dimensions: Width: 125 cm.  Height: 61 cm. Depth: 21 cm.

The model was used for instructing personnel in the functioning, field stripping and assembling of the BAR. For easier identification in training all vital component parts have been made twice the size as the corresponding parts in the operational weapon. The model is made of light metal alloys, and all visible features are color-treated. The model demonstrates the complete cycle of performance of the operational piece. This includes loading and unloading, extraction and ejection of simulated cartridges; action of hammer, trigger, safety, clip latch, change lever and sear; movement of gas piston, and operation of the buffer spring.

The plywood carrying case's lid detaches and is used as the demonstration stand, using the two mounting posts.

The case includes two disassembly mats marked out with the outlines of all detachable parts.
