A brass ship's wheel by Brown Bros. & Co. Rosebank ironworks Edinburgh. Circa 1950.

30" eight spoke wheel with hardwood handles and central hub marked with makers name.

With fitted wall mounting backplate which allows the wheel to turn.

Diameter: 76.5 cm. - 30 inches.

Projection: 12.5 cm. - 5 inches.

 

Brown Brothers & Co was founded by Andrew Betts Brown (1841–1906) a Scottish engineer and inventor in 1863. He invented the hydraulic crane and overhead travelling crane. He founded several companies including the Vauxhall Iron Works, which later evolved into Vauxhall Motors.
