AERONAUTICAL
Grown from a passion for pioneering design and superior engineering we have become the leading supplier of highly sophisticated models of aeronautical and space development. Many pieces are of scientific and historical importance, designed by leading industrial designers and aeronautical specialists of their day. Many pieces remain in their pure state such as wind tunnel and concept models and others are adapted to create practical interior furnishings. Our obsession with these items grows from a fascination of their superior engineering, extraordinary detail and their importance in history.
We have a large collection of AIRCRAFT MODELS from wind tunnel and concept models and manufacturer’s and contractors models. Makers and designers include: Concorde, Rolls Royce, Martin Baker, NASA, British Aerospace, Douglas, Vickers, & Zeppelin. Exciting EJECTOR SEATS designed and pioneered by Martin-Baker who is recognised as the world leader in this sector. Our impressive MIRRORS are made from polished aluminum, titanium and super-alloys, constructed from aircraft cowlings, jet engine turbines and stator rings. We stock a selection of metal and wooden PROPELLERS from airships and aircraft, dating from the later part of the 19th Century through to the first and second World Wars and beyond. TABLES incorporating jet and piston engines from manufactures such as Rolls Royce, Lycoming, Alvis, Pratt & Whitney, GEC and Jacobs which make the perfect coffee tables.
OPTICS
We offer a range of highly collectable optical instruments including a superb collection of large aperture BINOCULARS from the “Golden Era” of binocular manufacturing dating from 1910 to 1960. From polished naval binoculars, giant sophisticated lenses designed for lighthouse lights and magnificent period Tripod mounted and library antique refractor and reflector TELESCOPES and monoculars from makers such as Dolland, Troughton and Simms and Zeiss. Our OPTICS MISCELLANEOUS section may house parabolic reflector mirrors, magic lantern lenses, periscopes, sextants or projector lenses. Names for all categories include Nikko (now known as Nikon), Kowa, Toko, Fuji, Carl Zeiss, Busch, Ross, Chance Brothers, AGA, BBT and Krauss.
20TH CENTURY
Our design section originated with mainly mid 20th century Nordic, British and Brazilian furniture and has now expanded to include lighting by architects and designers such as Holophane and rare items such as PH pianos by Andreas Christensen.
Our DESK collection has included free standing and partners desk, by designers such as Finn Juhl, Arne Vodder, Gunni Omann, Jorge Zalszupin and Thorvald Bindesbøll. The LIGHTING department has seen hanging, floor standing, wall and table lights, candelabra and chandeliers, industrial and factory lights, by designers such as by Orrefors, Holophane, Poul Henningsen and Erik Gunnar Asplund.
PIANOS is another Hatchwell speciality, occasionally having both grand and upright art-cased pianos by Poul Henningsen and Andreas Christensen. The SEATING sections offers sofas, chairs and stools, by designers such as Hans Wegner, Svend Skipper, Kai Kristiansen, Johan Rohde and Arne Morrell. Our Danish, French and English dining TABLES and low tables are by designers such as Kurt Ostervig, Maison Jansen, Norman Foster and Kaj Gottlob. 20th CENTURY MISCELLANEOUS section sees, storage, models, sculpture, weights and measures, mirrors, chests, trunks, shelving, suitcases, silverwear and even retro football tables.
CLASSICAL
Our classical section holds mainly continental and English furniture and lighting from the Georgian to Edwardian periods. The BOOKCASES AND ÉTAGÈRE category holds glazed and open bookcases and tiered shelves, side boards and buffets, vitrines, credenzas, dressers and bibliotheques. You will find a collection of case furniture including chest of drawers, tallboys, wellington chests, campaign furniture, display cabinets, cartonniers and dressers in CABINETS AND COMMODES. The CHESTS, TRUNKS & BOXES section offers coffers, suitcases, architects and plans chest, campaign furniture and vintage luggage by notable names such as Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Goyard. We often have a wide selection of DESKS, from writing tables, secretaire, bureaus, Davenports, roll top and cylinders to rent desks, bonheurs de jour and bureau plats. The ever changing TABLES section can rage from console, dining, dressing, display, gueridon, Games/card to occasional, work, centre, nests or quartetto. Seating offers settees, sofas, canapés, daybeds, chaise Longue, stools, window seats, bergère, fauteuil, dinning chairs and hall chairs to name a few.
Our CLOCKS & BAROMETERS can vary from Longcase, mantle, wall, drop-dial and novelty clocks, grandfather, bracket, ships clock, aneroid, Mercury barometers and turret clocks. We also stock a wide selection of internal and external antique architectural brass, bronze, and steel DOOR FURNITURE from the mid 18th century to the mid 20th century. Encompassing the Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveaux and Art Deco periods and styles.
We have an extensive collection of LIGHTING especially chandeliers. Other lights are wall lights, standard lamps, table lamps, lanterns, candelabra, candlesticks and carriage lights. MirrorsGilt, girandole, wall, dressing, pier, over-mantle, convex, cheval.
Our MARINE section is forever changing, but we have come across huge lighthouse lights, mirrors, navigational aids, ships and buoy lights, models, sextants and octants, telescopes and binoculars, clocks. We often sell Celestial and Terrestrial GLOBES from floor standing or table globes to star globes and Library globes. PAINTING & PRINTS could be anything form works on paper, oil paintings, posters, maps and charts.
